  1. I am a descendant of George and Effie Denbow. I just stumbled across your website and found it interesting. My cousin and I are trying to find out more info on our family. George and Effie Denbow are my great-great grandparents. William Frederick Denbow is my Great grandfather and his daughter Eleanor Lucille Denbow Davis is my maternal Grandmother. Do you have a formal family history in the form of a book? Or other resource? My grandmother said her father was Cherokee. But we are having trouble finding the evidence. Can you help? Feel free to call me at 918-809-9020 or 918-483-7010 or email is angiecypert@aol.com.

    • Angie, thanks for your comment. I’m not sure what branch of the family your Denbows are from. I see your earlier post from 2014 that appears to have gone unanswered, unless I emailed you directly at that time. The only William F. Denbow I have is here: https://denbowtree.org/p27.htm#i1458
I don’t think that is yours, or is it?

Here are the George Denbows that I have:

      https://denbowtree.org/p20.htm#i1154

Are any of these your George?

I also have one George Brown, whose mother was Mary Ann Denbow:

      Is this your family?

If none of these are your family, I’ll need more information to try and figure out where you fit into the family tree.

I terms of the claim of Indian blood. This is certainly possible. However, I would caution that in about 90 percent of cases where there’s a family story of this type, DNA evidence proves otherwise. My youngest daughter’s father-in-law was sure that his grandmother was half-Cherokee. When he submitted a DNA sample, he had no trace of Native American blood at all. Ironically, I’ve personally never claimed any Indian blood, but a recent DNA analysis showed that I had a little over 1 percent “Amerindian” blood. No idea where that came from.

      Thanks for posting.

      Carl

      • Yes, that is the side. William fredrick, son of George and Effie, is my great grandfather. My grandmother failed to tell us about the “Brown” name. There is a Mary Brown that is a Blackfoot Indian. May not be the same one. Just found out last week, however the source isnt too reliable from what i can see as of right now. You did respond through email. I remember reading something in the newsletter about the native being from someone other than a blood relative but dont remember which one it is. I really do love ur webpage. I wish the Menighan and Meyers families had one like this.

  2. Carl, I have recently had DNA done through familytreedna. My kit #is MK69777 just incase you are on there. My aunt is on there as well. Her name is Pamela Davis. Would like to see if we are a match. I’m still trying to get it figured out. Have a blessed one.

  3. Carl,
According to the St. John’s in Baltimore parish records. A Nathan Butler married Rachael Denbow in October 1754. Are you aware of this woman?
